Speaker: George Gross
|
|
George Gross is Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Professor, Institute of Government and Public Affairs, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research and teaching activities are in the areas of power system analysis, economics and operations, utility regulatory policy and industry restructuring. He was formerly with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

Topic: Uncertainty and Risk in the Electric Market

As the electric industry restructuring brings more new structures and players into the realm of energy markets, the number of opportunities and challenges for power producers and marketers is increasing considerably.
This presentation provides a practical introduction to the tools and techniques that are commonly used to identify, model, and manage risk. The topics constitute a mixture of concepts from finance, microeconomics and power system analysis. Extensive examples are used to demonstrate the use of the techniques discussed. Most of the examples are taken directly from power industry applications.
